Once Upon A Dream

Fairytale gowns floated down the enchanted forest runway in the Paolo Sebastian Spring/Summer 2018 show 'Once Upon A Dream'.

Collaborating with Disney, designer Paul Vasileff created a mesmerising collection exhibiting the quintessential Paolo Sebastian aesthetic.

Illusion necklines, petal skirts and sweeping ball gowns in tones of petal pink, rose and iridescent grey took the runway. Intricate hand-sewn embroideries of woodland scenes and florals adorned French tulle and silk chiffon. Elaborate motifs of Snow White's poison apple, Cinderella's bluebirds and a clock signalling the stroke of midnight, illustrated the designer's dedication to detail.

An emotive score of Disney tracks played, taking us back to our childhood, to the land of innocence where dreams come true. The songs inspired the delicate embroidery featuring familiar lyrics - True Love's Kiss and Oh Sing Sweet Nightingale - sewn onto the gowns.

The partnership between Disney and Paolo Sebastian could not have been more perfect. Mary Costa, the voice of Walt Disney's Princess Aurora in the 1959 Sleeping Beauty is Vasileff's close friend, and the inspiration and catalyst for the collaboration.

Transported to this fairytale land, Paolo Sebastian captured our hearts and dreams with his sixteenth collection.

Paolo Sebastian was the reason I flew over to Adelaide for the Adelaide Fashion Festival. I have been a fan of designer Paul Vasileff's work for many years. It was a dream come true to capture the excitement and anticipation of backstage and experience his magical runway.

My dream is to wear one of his gowns. One day, it'll happen. I'll wish upon a star.
