You know when you come across something that you know you were meant to find. Well this was one of those somethings, a dress so gorgeous and unique that I couldn't not purchase it. It was at Perth's Dilettante sample sale that I found it.
Dilettante, known for its international labels and killer selection, is the go-to boutique for Perth's fash-pack and the sample sale was no exception. Fashionistas, hispters and others in the know, lined up for over an hour in the hope of snapping up a goodie or two.
My visit was certainly a success.
While my friends walked away with bags full of lust worthy items, I was ecstatic with my sole find a MATERIALBYPRODUCT dress - hand-crafted, conceptual and a work of art.
MATERIALBYPRODUCT's designer, Susan Dimasi, was classically trained in tailoring and draping at RMIT university in Victoria. Each piece is constructed using high quality materials - typically silk, wool and leather. Dimasi transforms cloth to clothing by creating intricate patterns on fabric, cutting then pleating, always following the human form so each garment fits like a glove. Her process is as poetic as the garment.
It is not often you come across such a piece. Easy to wear, so versatile to style, this is a dress I will cherish in my wardrobe and wear throughout the seasons.
