Mekel Fashion Illustrator
If you live in Perth you would have come across local artist Kelly Mekel's fashion illustrations in your travels. Currently featured on the Urban Walkabout Perth Series and the creative behind Betts Shoes Windows of the City, Mekel's dreamy artwork is everywhere!
Until September 15, as part of Perth Fashion Festival, she is holding her debut solo exhibition inspired by PFF's 2013 Campaign. Using vivid watercolours, ink, gouache and pencil Mekel skillfully re-imagined the campaign shots onto each canvas.
The end result? Amazing fashion illustrations that you will want to take home immediately!
Mekel's exhibition is on from:
August 30 - September 15
Stairway Gallery in Tu

On Thursday, special media guests and bloggers were invited to "Art Meets Fashion", a night celebrating local artists. Held at Aaron McPolin Collective in Claremont, we were treated to wine, cheese and a live fashion shoot! The shoot was captured by the talented fashion and beauty photographer Aaron McPolin and the incredible outfits were from Leederville boutique Atlas Divine.
Mekel's WANDERLUST exhibition ran as part of Urban Couture 2014. Local fashion illustrator Kelly Coates' work always transports me to a world of fashion, flowing gowns and beautiful girls. Her dreamy use of the black pen and splash of watercolour is perfect. I now own two pieces from Mekel. A framed original of J.Mendel lime green couture gown from this exhibition which was a lovely belated birthday gift from Mr CK and a limited edition print from Mekel's Perth Fashion Festival exhibition last year.
There is something about the simplicity of pencil to paper. How a blank page can come to life when a talented hand guides the pencil. The joyful act of drawing comes so naturally when we are children but sadly it's something we tend to do less of as we grow older.
This group of present day fashion illustrators, however, have mastered their talent to create some amazing pieces of art.
