For a fun experience, book the Posh Pit on the MONA ferry. For $55 per person return you have access to complimentary drinks and canapés in an exclusive lounge, bar, and private deck. Book Posh Pit tickets early as they sell out, especially the good time slots. Brooke St ferry terminal is the starting point for the $15 return ferry trip to MONA (45 minutes each way).

DAY TRIPS

Hiring a car in Hobart is the best option to get around. Parking is relatively easy in Hobart and a car allows you to take day trips in search of beautiful landscapes and even more oysters.

Bangor Wine & Oyster Shed (51min from Hobart) - This a beautiful drive with even better views at the destination, not to mention wine tasting and oysters.

20 Blackman Bay Road, Dunalley 7177

Eaglehawk Neck / Tasman National Park (1hr26min from Hobart) - Bush walk at Waterfall Bay in the Tasman National Park where a waterfall tumbles down a cliff face into the sea (1 hour return). The Tasman Blow Hole, Tasman's Arch, Devil's Kitchen & Tesselated Pavement are also great to see.

Wineglass Bay lookout (2hr45min from Hobart) - This is a longer drive but very much worth it. It's one of the most stunning places in the country. Devil's Corner Cellar Door is a pretty spot to stop for lunch and taste the delicious red wines, enjoy a wood fire oven pizza or sample oysters at the oyster stand. Freycinet Marine Farm is a must for seafood lovers.

Huon Valley (30min from Hobart) - Before Huonville, stop at the Apple Shed Museum, Cider House and Providore at GroveFull of wineries for some cider and a toastie or something light to eat. Take a self-drive itinerary here.

Mt Wellington (30min from Hobart) - Take a drive up at sunrise or sunset for magnificent views. Depending on the month it'll most likely be freezing and windy but the vista is worth it.

Russel Falls (1hr from Hobart) One of the most picturesque and most photographed waterfalls in Tasmania.

Frogmore Creek Winery (15mins from Hobart Airport) - Stop off on your way to or from the airport. The food is amazing.

Dark Mofo - If you're in town over the winter season make sure you go to Dark Mofo Winter Festival. For two weeks, Hobart and surrounds are taken over by winter feasting and pagan traditions celebrating winter and the darkness it brings. There are a variety of free and ticketed events including some child friendly ones. Make sure you go to the Winter Feast and walk around Dark Park once night falls. This festival is not like anything you've experienced before, it plays on all senses and will surprise you with the unknown.
