Fashion Illustrators, Dream Creators

There is something about the simplicity of pencil to paper. How a blank page can come to life when a talented hand guides the pencil. The joyful act of drawing comes so naturally when we are children but sadly it's something we tend to do less of as we grow older.

This group of present day fashion illustrators, however, have mastered their talent to create some amazing pieces of art.

Stella Jean Spring Summer 13

While pinning on my Pinterest account, I came across a wonderful designer named Stella Jean. Half-Haitian, half-Italian model turned fashion designer, Stella's pieces are bold, lively and feminine. Incorporating tribal prints, influenced by her Creole heritage, with a modern aesthetic, her designs have a charming ladylike edge. Her latest collection, Spring Summer 2013, is a combination of clashing prints styled with brightly coloured turbans, brooches, hats and jeweled cuffs that add a whimsical touch to the outfits. Playful and unique, timeless and oh so wearable, I'm sure you will fall in love with Stella Jean's designs as I did.

It was the anniversary of her death last week. This is a tribute to her and the light she brought to my life and the screen.

Unleashed

I found this wonderful tribal, fur 'n' feather donned Vogue Germany fashion editorial shot by Ruven Afanador and fell in love. It dates back to December 2002 but in no way does the shoot look passé. Instead of focussing on trend, it focusses on fashion as an art form and the talent of the artists that made it happen; photographer, stylist, model and makeup artist. The shoot is beautiful, timeless and inspiring.

Watching It Pour

Watching the rain from my local perch at my local cafe this dreary Thursday fills me with guilty pleasure. When it is pouring out, I don't feel so bad for staying in, for taking frequent naps, watching film after film, or perusing the web for hours. While escaping the rain, I came across these images of beauty, magic and dreams. They have kept the sun shining for me even if it isn't outside.
